Bengaluru, May 22 (). Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi, social worker K. Ramaiah has denied the allegations that his expensive Rado watch (about Rs 1.80 lakh) and half sleeve sweater allegedly went missing during his treatment. The hospital administration issued a clarification in this regard on Friday.
The clarification came after Ramaiah’s daughter Anita Ramaiah released a video appealing for the return of her father’s watch. He said the watch was emotionally significant and was one of his last memories of his father.
Govindrajnagar Police has registered an FIR against unknown persons under Section 303(2) of the Indian Justice Code and started investigation.
In its statement, Fortis Hospital, Nagarbhavi, dedicated the work of late K. Expressed condolences to Ramaiah’s family and said that it has conducted an internal investigation into the matter and shared all available information with the family and the police.
According to the hospital, at the time of handing over the body on January 15, 2026, there was no complaint by the family about any valuables being missing.
“A formal complaint about the disappearance of the watch and half the sweater was made more than two months later, on April 24, 2026, by which time the records were not available as per the hospital’s 30-day CCTV data retention policy,” the hospital said.
The hospital further stated that despite the delay in the complaint, it conducted an internal investigation, verified the available records and provided necessary information to the investigating agencies.
Fortis Hospital also said that Ramaiah had earlier visited some other health institution, after which he was brought to Fortis Hospital in Nagarbhavi.
The hospital said that the matter is currently under police investigation and it is fully cooperating. He also said that there is no pending information or action from his side.
The hospital appealed to avoid “speculative and unverified allegations”, saying such claims could amount to defamation.
Earlier, Anita Ramaiah had said in her complaint that her father suddenly fainted on January 15 following a serious health problem and was brought to Fortis Hospital after another private hospital refused to provide first aid.
He told that at that time his father had a Rado watch and a half-sleeve sweater, but when he died both these things were missing.
In the video released on Friday, Anita said that she has repeatedly demanded the hospital and police to investigate and provide CCTV footage.
“I just want my father’s watch back,” he said. It’s not a matter of price, it’s a matter of memories. I still have not recovered from the shock of my father’s death.
Police said that further investigation into the matter is underway.
