Patna, October 15 (). Folk singer Maithili Thakur will try her hand in Bihar assembly elections. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded its candidate from Alinagar seat in Darbhanga district for the assembly elections.
The 25-year-old singer from Benipatti in Madhubani district, who recently joined the party in the presence of BJP state president Dilip Jaiswal, will replace sitting MLA Mishrilal Yadav, whose ticket has been cut.
At present, BJP has played a big gamble by fielding Maithili Thakur in Bihar elections. Through this, the party will try to strengthen its position on Alinagar seat by taking advantage of the popularity of Maithili in Mithilanchal region, especially among the youth and cultural enthusiasts.
After joining the BJP on Tuesday, Thakur said, “I am very impressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. I have come here to serve the society and contribute to the development of Bihar.”
He also expressed his desire to promote Maithili traditions through public service.
According to sources, before Maithili Thakur’s entry into politics, she had a meeting with BJP election in-charge Vinod Tawde and Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai last week, which strengthened the speculations about her entry into politics.
The BJP’s first list of 71 candidates, released earlier this week, included many experienced leaders and several new candidates. BJP’s first list was released as per NDA’s seat-sharing agreement, in which the party is contesting on 101 seats.
The main contest in Bihar is between the BJP-led NDA and the Grand Alliance. However, the election battle in Bihar has become interesting with the entry of Prashant Kishore’s Jan Suraj Party. Let us tell you that voting for the 243-member Bihar Assembly will be held in two phases on 6th and 11th November, the results of which will be declared on 14th November.
