There are some love stories that bring a smile on your face. There are some things that make you believe in love forever. And then there are some films like ‘Chand Mera Dil’ – a deep and true love story. Directed by Vivek Soni and starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, the film depicts with utmost honesty the beauty, depth and eventual emotional exhaustion of young love. What begins as a story of surreptitious glances, youthful enthusiasm and innocent romance gradually transforms into a much more layered and heart-wrenching experience.
The film never tries to glamorize love, but instead shows how love can heal you, engulf you, and sometimes even destroy you completely.
The story of ‘Chand Mera Dil’ revolves around two young lovers named Aarav and Chandni, whose passionate romance is soon overshadowed by the responsibilities of youth. As they grapple with their dreams, ambitions, family pressures, and sudden responsibilities, their innocent love story gradually transforms into a raw and emotional journey of sacrifice, heartbreak, and reinvention—which forces them to understand the changed and deeper meaning of love.
In the role of Chandni, Ananya Pandey has definitely given the most powerful performance of her career so far. He has filled this character with such an ease and sensitivity that makes it very real and believable. Be it the quietly breaking emotional moments, the moments that show a ray of hope, or the conflict going on within the mind – Chandni’s character seems alive every moment; She has human weaknesses, emotions, and seems like a completely genuine person.
Lakshya is tremendous as Aarav and proves once again why he is one of the most promising young actors today. He beautifully captures the madness of first love, passion, despair, helplessness and the emotional ups and downs of his character. There is an innocence in the way they love, and a painful heaviness in the way life slowly changes them. Lakshya particularly shines in the film’s emotionally intense scenes. His acting is so genuine and effective that it remains in the minds of the audience long after the film ends.
The pairing of Ananya and Lakshya has a refreshing chemistry, which becomes the life of this film. From the sweet hesitations of college love to the emotionally draining phase of a relationship struggling under pressure—their romance feels so natural and genuine. Their silences speak as loudly as the conflicts between them. You pray for them, you despair along with them, and in the end, your heart fills with their pain.
Director Vivek Soni has presented this story with great sensitivity and emotional depth; He has laid more emphasis on realism, avoiding theatrics. This film beautifully shows how young love changes when life, responsibilities and emotional baggage get involved in our relationships. Vivek’s direction ensures that despite being based on such deeply emotional themes, the film does not feel superficial or hollow. There is a slight layer of sadness in the entire story, which persists till the very end of the film. His storytelling style has always focused on human emotions, the vulnerabilities of relationships and the quiet moments between characters—rather than heavy-handed filmy drama—as we have seen in his previous films ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ and ‘Aap Jaisa Koi’.
The dialogues of Akshat Ghildiyal, Tushar Paranjape and Vivek Soni seem like conversations, yet they have a deep impact. Many of the lines stay with you because they come from genuine emotion rather than cosmetic drama. The film depicts the language of young love, emotional despair and heartbreak so beautifully that it feels natural and relatable.
The music album becomes the emotional backbone of the film. From the title track to the heart-touching song ‘Aitbaar’ and the beautiful love song ‘Khasiyat’, each song adds emotional depth to the story and does not exist merely for commercial gain. The music evokes both romance and heartbreak, making many moments even more emotionally powerful. And a special mention deserves Shreya Ghoshal, whose voice brings a wistful emptiness to the soundtrack that matches the emotional mood of the film perfectly.
What doesn’t entirely work in the film is that some scenes feel a bit dragged out, especially in the middle parts, where the story lingers on for longer than necessary. At points, the emotional heaviness starts to feel repetitive. A little more tight editing in some parts could have made its impact even more sharp and powerful.
