Chandigarh. The District Court of Chandigarh has given a big verdict in the sensational double murder case that is almost six years old. The court has sentenced Kuldeep, who was found guilty of murdering two sisters with a knife in a PG located in Sector-22, to life imprisonment. While giving this decision, the court said that the convict will have the option to appeal in the higher court. The massacre took place on the morning of Rakshabandhan. The case is of 15th August 2019, the day when the whole country was celebrating Rakshabandhan and Independence Day. Manpreet Kaur and Rajwant Kaur, originally from Fazilka (Punjab), were living in PG in Kothi No. 2595 of Sector-22. Both the sisters worked in a private company in Zirakpur. According to the prosecution, accused Kuldeep was his old acquaintance. On the day of the incident, at around 5:10 am, he secretly entered the upper floor of the PG. There, he had a dispute with both the sisters over some issue, after which Kuldeep brutally killed both of them by attacking them with a knife and other sharp objects and ran away.
This is how the family got suspicious: On the holy festival of Rakshabandhan, when the brother called his sisters and the phone did not answer even after calling several times, the family got worried. When the relatives reached the PG around 2 pm, they were shocked to see the scene there. The bodies of both the sisters were lying soaked in blood.
CCTV footage and testimony put him behind bars. CCTV footage became the biggest evidence in the police investigation. In one of the footage, Kuldeep was seen entering the house at 5:09 am. Meanwhile, a Nepali youth living in the same house identified Kuldeep and confirmed that he used to visit there often earlier also.
Sector-17 police station showed promptness and arrested the accused within a few days. Kuldeep was in jail (judicial custody) for the last seven years. Now the court has given him the final punishment for his actions.
