Patna . Amid the controversy over the encounter death of Bharat Tiwari in Bhojpur, East Champaran Police has suspended a constable posted at Motihari Police Lines. It is alleged that he said such things publicly regarding this matter which went viral. Constable Ashish Kumar Tiwari has been suspended after a departmental inquiry by the police administration. Ashish Kumar Tiwari had given statements to social media and media institutions, in which he described himself as Bharat Tiwari’s brother and publicly commented on the encounter case. East Champaran Superintendent of Police (SP) Swarn Prabhat said that the concerned Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) had investigated the matter.
Prabhat said in his written statement, “After reviewing the investigation report, the department ordered the immediate suspension of the constable.”
A video is spreading rapidly on social media, in which Ashish Kumar Tiwari is seen. In the video, he introduces himself as a constable of Bihar Police and comments about the death of Bharat Tiwari. After the video went viral, Motihari Police started investigating the case.
Police officials said that the constable was given a chance to present his side during the investigation. However, his answer was not satisfactory, due to which he was suspended. This development has happened amid the ongoing public and political debate over the death of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari. Judicial investigation into the encounter that took place in Bhojpur district is going on.
Police officials said that the conduct of constable Ashish Tiwari in public forums and on social media was not found to be in accordance with the service conduct rules applicable to policemen. The investigation also took into consideration matters related to discipline during the constable’s previous posting.
It is alleged that during his posting at Harpur Police Station in January 2023, Ashish had threatened a fellow police officer with a knife while on night patrolling duty.
While posted at Piprakothi Police Station in August 2024, he misbehaved with his colleagues and pointed his service revolver at his fellow personnel. Officials said that these old incidents were also investigated during the departmental action.
