New Delhi. Amid the escalating war between Israel and Iran, Dubai Airports announced on Saturday that all flight operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International (DWC) Airport will be suspended until further notice.
Israel, Iran, Dubai and Iraq closed their airspace after Israel’s air strikes on Tehran on Saturday, severely affecting air travel in many directions in the Middle East. “Flight operations at DXB and Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International (DWC) Airport have been suspended until further notice. Passengers are advised not to go to the airport and contact their airlines for flight updates,” Dubai Airports said in a post on social media platform X.
The post further said, “We appreciate the cooperation of passengers. Further information will be provided as we continue to monitor the situation.”
Dubai International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world, handling more than 8,500 flights per week and 1,200 daily. More than 100 airlines provide services to more than 270 destinations here.
Major airlines include Emirates, flydubai, IndiGo and Air India.
Airports in most countries in the Gulf region were affected, due to which many flights were cancelled, diverted or diverted due to security reasons.
Israel closed its airspace to civilian aircraft immediately after the attacks, while many airlines in Europe and the Gulf region canceled services or diverted flights.
Dubai-based airline flydubai had earlier said some of its flights had been affected due to the temporary closure of airspace over Iraq, Iran and Israel.
Air India has said that in view of the deteriorating situation in parts of the Middle East, it has suspended all its flights to all destinations in the Middle East.
The announcement came at a time when the US and Israel launched ‘major military operations’ in Iran, significantly increasing tensions in the Middle East. This development has increased the possibility of a wider conflict, which could have far-reaching geopolitical and economic implications.
“In view of the evolving situation in parts of the Middle East, all Air India flights to all destinations in the Middle East are suspended,” Air India said in a statement.
The airline said, “We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of safety for our passengers and crew. We will continuously assess the situation and make changes to operations as necessary. Our teams will provide all possible assistance to passengers.”
An Air India Express spokesperson said that in view of the deteriorating situation in the Gulf region, Air India Express has suspended all westbound international flights. He said the safety of passengers and crew is the top priority.
