Raipur, April 12 (IANS). Preparations for the first phase of Census 2027 are in full swing in Chhattisgarh. This process has started across the country from April 1, while in the state the work of ‘house listing’ i.e. counting of houses will start from May 1. This phase will continue till May 30.
This first phase of the census is called ‘House Listing and Housing Census’, which is a very important part of the entire process. During this period, detailed information about every residential and non-residential building in the state will be collected. This will include information related to the condition of the building, its use and the facilities available in it.
This time in Chhattisgarh, people have also been given the option of ‘self-enumeration’ i.e. entering information on their own under the ‘Digital India’ initiative. Between April 16 and April 30, households can voluntarily fill in their household information through a special online portal. By doing so they will get a unique self-enumeration ID, which will later have to be shown to the enumeration officer at the time of verification.
In this phase, various important information will be recorded, such as the number of each building and house, its condition and type, its use (residential, commercial or other), nature of construction (kutcha, pucca or semi-pucca), number of families living in it and basic amenities like drinking water, toilet, electricity, cooking fuel and internet connectivity.
This census is going to be historic in many ways. This will be India’s first fully digital census, in which enumeration officers and supervisors will enter data directly through mobile phones. The entire process will be monitored through the ‘Census Management and Monitoring System’.
The government has also clarified that all the information collected during the census will remain completely confidential and will not be made public even under the RTI Act.
This will be the 16th national census of India and the eighth since independence. The last census before this was conducted in 2011, while the proposed census in 2021 could not be conducted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The first census in India was conducted in 1872 and the first after independence in 1951.
