New Delhi, October 26 (). Chhath, the great festival of folk faith, is being celebrated across the country. Lord Surya is worshiped in the festival of Chhath. Bihar is the place where there are maximum number of Sun temples.
Lord Surya is worshiped on the occasion of Chhath. Today we have brought information about the famous Sun temples of Bihar.
There is Dev Surya Temple in Aurangabad, Bihar, where devotees flock to have darshan of Lord Surya on Chhath. This temple is known for its architecture and religious importance. Usually Sun temples face east, but this temple faces west. West-facing temples are considered auspicious for Chhath Puja because at the time of evening Arghya, the sun’s rays can directly enter the temple, which is considered auspicious for the puja.
According to the legends, earlier the temple was facing east, but when the temple was attacked by Aurangzeb, the temple itself changed the position of its main gate towards the west. It is believed that this was possible only because of the devotion of the devotees.
There is Manichak Sun Temple in Masaurhi, Patna. Lord Surya and Narayana are present together in this temple. It is believed that any devotee who worships in the temple with true heart, all the obstacles in his life are removed and he gets freedom from leprosy.
According to mythology, a person named Ramkhelavan Singh had found a black idol of Shri Vishnu in his field. The people of the village together established the idol and started worshiping it, then Vishram Singh, a resident of Taregna, prayed for a child in this temple and after fulfilling the wish, got a big pond constructed there. Sun is worshiped in this pond and Arghya is offered to him.
There is another Sun Temple in Aurangabad, Bihar, named Umga Sun Temple. It is believed that this is the oldest and first temple of Bihar, from where the worship of Lord Surya was started. The temple is situated amidst the hills. Lord Ganesha, Surya and Lord Shiva are worshiped in the temple. This temple is also facing west, due to which it is more recognized.
Kandaha Sun Temple is in Mahishi block in Bihar. This temple has a rare statue of Lord Surya, which is not found in any other temple in the world. In this temple, Sun God is riding on a chariot of seven horses. The history of the temple is believed to be linked to Lord Krishna’s son Samb, who worshiped the Sun God here. Lord Surya is present in the temple along with his wives.
There is Dakshinark Sun Temple in Gaya, Bihar, which is also mentioned in the Hindu scripture Vayu Purana. It is believed that whoever worships the Sun in this temple and offers Pind Daan to his ancestors, he becomes free from the bondage of birth and death.
