Chandigarh All India Congress Committee General Secretary, Former Union Minister and Sirsa MP Kumari Selja has said that the toiling farmers are once again suffering the brunt of the failure of the BJP government in Haryana. He said that 12.79 lakh farmers of the state have registered 73.48 lakh acres of paddy, but about 30 percent of these farmers have not been matched till now. As a result, farmers are facing a lot of difficulty in selling their produce. The MP warned that if the government does not take concrete steps immediately, the Congress will take to the streets with the farmers and fight for their rights. In a statement issued to the media, MP Kumari Selja has said that the paddy soaked in the rain is rotting in the mandis and it does not even seem to be bid. Farmers are forcibly facing additional cuts. In the name of verification of the name, 150 to 250 rupees are being deducted from them and only then purchases are being done. He said that this situation is a sheer injustice to the farmers and the negligence of the BJP government and a living evidence of the disorganized purchase system. The MP said that farmers produce food by shedding blood and sweat in the fields, but their hard work is not getting a fair price. Millions of tonnes of paddy is deteriorating in mandis and the government is limited to only portal and paperwork. Due to the insensitivity of the government, farmers are suffering heavy economic losses today. MP Kumari Selja demanded that the purchase of wet paddy should be ensured in the mandis with immediate effect, farmers should be relieved from illegal cuts and the technical flaws of the portal coming in the purchase of registered farmers should be removed. Also, concrete arrangements should be made for safety and storage of paddy in the mandis. Paddy producing farmers in Haryana are facing many problems and issues, including lack of crop price, delay in government procurement, lack of facilities like digital scales and gate passes, and crop loss caused by natural disasters. Protests are also being organized by the farmers regarding these problems and the officials and the government are demanding a quick solution but no hearing is being held. The demands of the farmers are clear and justified that they should get the right price and right weight of their crop. The MP warned that if the government does not take concrete steps immediately, the Congress will come out on the roads with the farmers and fight for their rights.
