Lucknow, 22 September (). The Uttar Pradesh ATS (ATS) has revealed the interstate racket that cheated crores of rupees through social media in the name of help of Gaza war victims. Three accused involved in this fraud have been arrested from Bhiwandi in Maharashtra.
This arrest has taken place at a time when sensitivity remains in the country and abroad due to the Gaza crisis and the accused were misusing this sentiment and were making money in the name of fake help from the people.
The ATS had received intelligence that some people are making emotional appeals on social media such as Instagram and WhatsApp group in the name of assisting Gaza war victims (especially children and women). These people were collecting funds through UPI ID and bank accounts by luring people through video and emotional messages.
The amount of crores of rupees collected from this crowd funding campaign was not actually reaching the victims, but the accused were using that money in their illegal activities.
The three accused arrested by the UP ATS in this case include Mohammad Ayan, Zaid Noteyar and Abu Sufiyan.
Together, these three accused conducted a fake charity campaign on social media and transferred lakhs of rupees from many parts of the country including UP to their private accounts.
The ATS has recovered three mobile phones from these accused, which will be investigated. It is being told that there has been a donation of crores of rupees in their accounts. In which activities did this amount used? Did it have any anti -national objective? Investigation is being done in this direction.
The three accused were arrested on September 20 under non-bailable warrant and presented in CBI Court Mumbai. Now they will be questioned by bringing them to Lucknow on transit remand and police custody will be demanded from the court.
