New Delhi, December 7 (). No petrol, no diesel and no frills…cycling is very beneficial in today’s busy times. Bicycle not only makes traveling easy but also keeps health healthy. Health experts call bicycle a true companion of health.

The Ministry of AYUSH of the Government of India describes cycling as very beneficial for health. According to the ministry, regular cycling strengthens both the body and mind. Cycling provides not just one but many benefits.

Cycling sharpens the brain. Many researches have revealed that daily cycling improves memory and concentration. Cycling releases endorphin hormone in the body, which is called the ‘hormone of happiness’. This reduces stress and depression. Cycling is such a light exercise, which does not put much stress on the knees and joints and also reduces chronic pain. Not only this, creativity also increases. Fresh air and light exercise help in giving new thinking to the mind.

Cycling is also beneficial for people suffering from insomnia. Cycling daily helps in deep and peaceful sleep at night and keeps weight under control. Half an hour of cycling can burn up to 200-300 calories, which keeps obesity under control. Apart from this, it also strengthens the heart, reduces the risk of diabetes and improves immunity.

All these benefits can be easily achieved by cycling at a moderate speed. Amidst the increasing pollution and traffic jams in cities, cycling is not only good for health, but also makes a big contribution in saving the environment.

Cycling is safe for most people. However, in certain circumstances one should not ride a bicycle or exercise caution or doctor’s advice is necessary, such as patients with serious heart disease, recent major surgery, balance disorder or dizziness, severe arthritis or excessive swelling in the joints. Pregnant women should not do cycling without medical advice.
