Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested two people in connection with a major theft that took place in Manekbagh Society located in the satellite area of the city. Police have recovered stolen property worth approximately Rs 1.47 crore from the accused. Police gave this information on Friday. The theft took place between January 11 and January 16, when a doctor’s family had locked their house and gone out of the city during the Uttarayan festival. Taking advantage of the absence of the doctor family, the accused entered the house and stole cash and jewellery.
Following the incident, a complaint was lodged with the Crime Branch, which initiated a thorough investigation.
Several teams were formed and recordings of more than 200 CCTV cameras from the surrounding areas were examined.
Police said the suspects were identified based on technical surveillance, CCTV analysis and other intelligence.
The arrested accused have been identified as Kamlesh alias Gugo Parmar, resident of Chandkheda and Mehul Parmar, resident of Shahpur. Both are originally residents of Banaskantha district.
According to the Crime Branch, Kamlesh is a habitual criminal and has at least 10 cases of house burglary and theft registered against him in various police stations in Ahmedabad and other places.
Officials said the accused targeted closed houses during festivals. During the operation, the Crime Branch traced the entire stolen property and confiscated it legally.
The recovered property includes Rs 45 lakh in cash, gold jewelery worth approximately Rs 1.01 crore, silver jewelery and diamond jewelery worth approximately Rs 50,000.
The total value of the recovered property is estimated to be around Rs 1.50 crore. Police said that further legal action is underway against the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS).
The crime branch is also investigating whether these two accused are linked to similar theft incidents reported from other parts of the city.
