Shimla, July 11 (). Himachal Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday criticized the Congress over the allegations leveled against Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust. The party termed these allegations as politically motivated and an attempt to take advantage of the faith of lakhs of devotees for political gains.
BJP chief spokesperson Rakesh Jamwal said the Congress, which opposed the Ram Janmabhoomi movement for decades and repeatedly tried to obstruct the construction of the Ram temple, was now trying to create unnecessary controversy on an issue deeply rooted in the country’s faith.
He said that if there is any political party which should introspect before talking on corruption, it is Congress. He said that some of the biggest corruption scams in the history of India took place during the Congress rule, which caused huge losses to the exchequer and seriously damaged the country’s global image.
Jamwal said the country has not forgotten the 2G spectrum scam, coal allocation (Colgate) scam, Commonwealth Games scam, AgustaWestland helicopter deal, Adarsh Housing Society scam, National Herald case, Bofors scam, Aircel-Maxis case and many other allegations of corruption that came to light during the Congress-led governments. He said that these scams became symbols of corruption and misgovernance under the Congress rule.
The BJP spokesperson said it was ironical that the Congress, which faced repeated allegations of large-scale corruption during its tenure, was now trying to preach to others on transparency and accountability.
He said that before making politically motivated allegations against institutions related to Ram Temple, Congress leaders should explain the record of their party.
Jamwal said that Lord Ram is a symbol of faith of crores of Indians and the Ram temple belongs to the entire country and not to any political party.
He stressed that if any issue needs investigation then it should be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law and established legal procedures. He accused the Congress of dragging a sacred institution into political controversy only for electoral gains.
He further said that BJP is fully committed to transparency, accountability and good governance, whereas the political legacy of Congress has been marred by corruption scams and appeasement politics.
