India gave new strength to relations with Seychelles, signed many agreements including Line of Credit of Rs 1250 crore

New Delhi. During the state visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Seychelles from June 27 to 29, India and Seychelles signed several important agreements to take bilateral relations to new heights. Both countries agreed to further strengthen partnership in several areas including health, education, capacity building, digital transformation, renewable energy, maritime security, defence, agriculture, space and financial cooperation. This information was given by the Ministry of External Affairs of India in a statement issued on Sunday. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, delegation level talks were held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminy at the State House in Victoria. The two leaders discussed in detail bilateral relations as well as regional and global challenges such as security of the Indian Ocean region, illegal fishing, drug trafficking and piracy. During this, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to the development priorities of Seychelles and said that India is fully committed to further strengthening the long-standing trust and partnership between the two countries.
The two leaders also unveiled a joint commemorative logo to commemorate 50 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Seychelles.
Subsequently, several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) related to capacity building, UPI, health, agriculture, shipping, space, extradition and Line of Credit were exchanged.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India has announced to provide a Line of Credit of Rs 1,250 crore to Seychelles.
Apart from this, several new developmental initiatives were also announced in the areas of food security, infrastructure, health, vocational training, maritime security and defence. Seychelles also announced its joining the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also addressed a special session of the National Assembly of Seychelles, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to do so.
In his address, he mentioned the historical friendship between India and Seychelles, shared values ​​such as democracy, rule of law and people-centric good governance. He said mutual trust and close cooperation between the two countries has established a strong partnership in areas such as development, maritime security, technology, innovation, health and capacity building. The Prime Minister also called for further expanding parliamentary exchanges between the two democratic countries.
Prime Minister Modi also met Seychelles’ Opposition Leader Bernard Georges. The two leaders reviewed India-Seychelles relations and reiterated their commitment to further strengthen the special friendship.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met the Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations of Seychelles. This was the fourth meeting between the two leaders after Ramgoolam took charge in November 2024.
The meeting reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects between India and Mauritius and the special economic package offered by India. Prime Minister Modi said that India attaches special importance to the development of Mauritius and the ongoing projects between the two countries will give new impetus to health, connectivity, sustainable development and blue economy.
The two leaders reiterated their commitment to the India-Mauritius Advanced Strategic Partnership, India’s ‘Vision Ocean’ and ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy. Also agreed to continue working together in the interests of the Global South and for peace, stability and prosperity in the Indian Ocean region.
