Evian (France), June 17 (). Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s bilateral meetings at the G7 summit showed that India’s ‘multi-alignment’ policy is proving beneficial in the global economy.
After the meeting of Prime Minister Modi and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, it has been decided that the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) will come into force from July 15, 2026. This is expected to significantly increase trade and investment between the two countries.
The implementation of this agreement will bring a big and important change in India’s global trade system.
Additionally, India has also ensured the security of some of its sensitive areas. These include dairy products, cereals, millets, edible oils, oilseeds, apples and many types of vegetables.
An India-Canada joint statement issued after the meeting of Prime Minister Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said that both the leaders are satisfied with the progress of the ongoing negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). They also reiterated their common goal of finalizing this agreement by 2026.
“We have completed this major trade agreement, called the ‘Mother of All Trade Deals’, and now we are moving forward to rapidly fulfill our promises. We will sign a free trade agreement (FTA) by the end of this year,” European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa said at a meeting with European Union (EU) leaders.
Prime Minister Modi wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “It was a pleasure to meet President of the European Council Antonio Costa and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen today in Evian.”
He said, “Earlier this year, India had the honor of welcoming him at the Republic Day celebrations. This is a very important time for India-EU relations as we have concluded a free trade agreement. In our conversation, we discussed further strengthening economic ties in the times to come. In today’s global environment, our growing cooperation can play an important role in strengthening peace, stability and prosperity.”
