Chandigarh Y Puran Kumar, a senior IPS officer in Haryana, committed suicide by shooting himself in his house on Tuesday. The incident took place in his private residence number 116 located in Sector-11, Chandigarh. This news stirred up the Haryana Police Department and high police officials immediately reached the spot. IPS Y Puran Kumar was then posted in ADGP, Police Training College, Sunaria, Rohtak. His body was found in the basement of his house in the afternoon. He had only his daughter at the time of the incident. When the daughter went to the basement, the father’s body was covered with blood. Neighbors then informed the police. Currently, his wife Amneet P Kumar, IAS officer of Haryana cadre and Commissioner and Secretary of Foreign Cooperation Department, are visiting Japan. They have been informed about the incident.
IPS Y Puran Kumar was a 2001 batch officer and was also in discussion several times in controversies. He had to face problems due to not getting promotion, sometimes residence or favorite vehicle. Once he accused several officials of occupying more than one accommodation and insisted on implementing the ‘one official-one house’ policy.
The real reason behind the suicide has not been clear yet. Daughter is mentally shocked at this time and not in a position to speak
