Karauli. A tragic accident took place near Bhopar river in Karauli district of Rajasthan, when an 11 KV high tension power line broke and fell on the road. Meanwhile, a motorcycle passing by got electrocuted and suddenly caught fire. In this accident, three people including uncle and nephew died on the spot. There is an atmosphere of tension in the area after the incident. The victim’s family and local people have been protesting for the last 18 hours demanding compensation. After this incident, the grieving family members refused to remove the dead bodies and sat on a strike. The protest has been going on for more than 18 hours and they are demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for each victim and a government job for one member of each affected family. According to Todabhim DSP Murari Lal Meena, the deceased have been identified as Rambabu (45), Vishnu (22) and Chaubey Jatav (44), residents of Akhada village of Balghat police station area.
These three people, who work as daily wage laborers in Hindaun, were returning home on a motorcycle on Monday evening when an 11KV power line broke and fell on a kutcha road near the Bhopar river. Their motorcycle got stuck in the live electric wire, due to which all three got electric shock and died. The motorcycle immediately caught fire. Local people tried hard to extinguish the fire by pouring soil, but the victims died on the spot.
Police said Chaubey Jatav was Vishnu’s uncle, while Rambabu was his neighbour. This accident happened around 5 pm. After the incident, the officials suspended the feeder in-charge of the concerned electricity department till further investigation.
Immediately after this tragic incident, family members and villagers refused to take the bodies for post-mortem and sat on strike at the spot itself. The protesters have demanded a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for each deceased and a government job for each family member.
Todabhim MLA Ghanshyam Mehar and Hindaun MLA Anit Jatav reached the protest site and supported the agitating families.
Despite several rounds of talks led by SDM Aman Chaudhary, the protests continued throughout the night. However, the talks yielded no results as the families remained adamant on their demands. MLA Ghanshyam Mehar said that the protests will continue until the administration gives written assurance regarding compensation and employment. As the protest continues, the bodies are still kept at the protest site on the river bank.
Heavy police force has been deployed to maintain law and order. Senior officials including Karauli SP Murari Lal Meena, SDM Aman Chaudhary and ASP Satendra Pal Singh are monitoring the situation and talking to the protesters.
