Madrid, April 25 (). Real Madrid’s dream of winning the La Liga title this season seems to be almost shattered. The 1-1 draw against Real Betis has dealt a big blow to the team’s hopes. If Madrid had won this match, there could have been pressure on FC Barcelona. Now Barcelona has a chance to further strengthen their lead.
Madrid played brilliantly in the beginning of the match. The presence of Kylian Mbappe gave an edge to the team’s attack and in the 17th minute Vinicius Junior gave the team the lead by scoring a goal. The goal came after Federico Valverde’s shot, which Betis goalkeeper Alvaro Vallés could not clear properly.
Betis soon recovered their composure and started counter-attacking. Andrey Lunin made several brilliant saves to keep Madrid’s lead intact. He parried dangerous efforts from Antoine and Cédric Bakambu.
The match became more exciting in the second half. Mbappe had a goal ruled out for offside, while Betis continued to pose a threat on the counter attack. Lunin once again produced a brilliant performance to block Kucho Hernandez’s effort.
In the final stages of the match, both teams pushed for victory. In the 78th minute, Wallace rectified his mistake by making an excellent save on Valverde’s shot. Meanwhile, Mbappe left the field due to a muscle problem, which is a matter of concern for Madrid.
Betis finally scored an equalizing goal in injury time. Hector Bellerin made the score 1-1 with a brilliant finish. This goal came when Antonio Rudiger could not make a proper clearance.
After the match, coach Alvaro Arbeloa expressed disappointment and said that luck also plays an important role in close matches. This draw could prove to be a big blow to Madrid’s title campaign.
