Pune. In order to maintain law and order in Pune district of Maharashtra, the police administration has imposed prohibitory orders for 14 days from July 21 to August 3 under Sections 37(1), 37(2) and 37(3) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. This order will be effective from 12:01 am on July 21 to 12:00 am on August 3 in the entire Pune Police Commissionerate area. According to the order issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Dr. Prashant Amritkar, the prohibitory order has been imposed to maintain public peace and safety in view of movements like morchas, demonstrations, bandhs and fasts organized by various political parties and social organizations in the city, as well as in view of Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Jayanti and other festivals. According to the order, there will be a ban on gathering of five or more people, holding a meeting or taking out a procession without the prior permission of the Police Commissioner.
Under the prohibitory order, a ban has been imposed on carrying, collecting or preparing explosive, inflammable or incendiary substances, stones, weapons, swords, spears, sticks, sticks, guns or any instrument capable of causing physical harm.
Apart from this, there will also be a ban on displaying or burning any person, leader or symbolic effigy, raising inflammatory slogans, obscene or objectionable slogans, giving provocative speeches in public, disseminating such material or displaying such posters, banners and symbols which may affect public peace, morality or security of the state.
An important provision has also been added in the order that action will be taken against activities like spreading terror, threatening or glorifying crime by making reels and sharing them on social media.
However, this order will not apply to employees on government duty, officers authorized to carry weapons as part of their duties and private security guards and watchmen carrying sticks up to 3.5 feet long.
Police have clarified that legal action will be taken against those violating the order under Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951. Also, even after the expiry of the period of the order, investigation, legal action and punitive process can be continued in cases related to its violation.
Pune Police has appealed to the citizens to follow the restrictive orders and cooperate with the administration in maintaining law and order.
