Bloemfontein, February 19 (). South Africa’s experienced all-rounder Marizanne Kapp has been ruled out of the upcoming women’s ODI series against Pakistan due to illness. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has given this information on Thursday.
Marizanne Kapp, 36, felt discomfort soon after completing her spell during the first innings of the third T20 match against Pakistan at Willowmoor Park in Benoni on Monday.
“Following further medical examination, the Proteas women’s medical team has decided to rest her as a precautionary measure,” Cricket South Africa said.
DP World Lions bowling all-rounder Fay Cowling has been included in the squad for the first time, in place of Marizanne Kapp. Cowling is a former South Africa Under-19 player, who impressed the selectors during the national training camp in Tshwane last month. She was part of the team that finished runner-up in the 2025 Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup in Malaysia.
Marizanne, who has 162 ODI caps since making her debut in the format in 2009, played two T20Is against Pakistan and returned with figures of 25/1 and 11/0 respectively. The seam-bowling all-rounder has played a key role in the Proteas’ recent successes at the international level, including finishing runner-up at the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
The ODI series against Pakistan is part of the ICC Women’s Championship cycle, which determines qualification for the 2029 Women’s World Cup. The first match of the ODI series will be played on 22 February at Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein followed by the second game on 25 February at SuperSport Park in Centurion. The series will conclude on March 1 at the Kingsmead Stadium in Durban.
South Africa women’s ODI squad: Laura Wolvaardt (captain), Tajamin Britts, Fay Cowling, Nadine de Klerk, Anne Derksen, Lara Goodall, Ayanda Hlubi, Sinalo Jafta, Sune Luus, Karabo Maso, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Tumi Sekhukhune, Nondumiso Shangase, Chloe Tryon, Faye Tunnicliffe.
