New Delhi. A fire broke out in the early hours in a multi-storey building in Delhi’s Tughlakabad Extension. At least three people have died in this incident so far, while the condition of two others remains critical. At present, the fire has been brought under control. It is being told that the fire started in the parking area on the ground floor, where 7-8 motorcycles and scooters were burnt and then the fire spread to the entire building. The fire department received information at 2:27 pm and started extinguishing the fire. Delhi Police officials said that a PCI call was received at Govindpuri police station at 2.24 am. In this, it was told about the incident of fire in a five-storey residential building in Tughlakabad Extension of Govindpuri, Delhi. Local police immediately reached the spot, soon other officers also reached the spot. The police team at the spot started the work of rescuing the people trapped in the building. Soon four fire brigade vehicles and an ambulance reached the spot.
Police and fire department teams evacuated a total of 8 people during the operation and sent them to Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS Trauma Centre. Three people were later confirmed dead, including a 22-year-old man and two women. The condition of two others remains critical.
Initial investigations revealed that the fire broke out due to an electrical short circuit on the ground floor. The blaze quickly engulfed seven parked two-wheelers, including an electric scooter that was on charge.
Eyewitness told news agency that the fire broke out at around 2:10 am. He said, “We came to know about it around 2:20 in the night, by which time the fire had spread a lot. My house is just opposite and my daughter was standing outside. I called the fire brigade from my daughter’s phone. When I came down while making the call, I saw that the fire had become more intense. After this the fire brigade came and brought the situation under control.”
The eyewitness said, “My daughter threw a saree towards the other building, from where the people trapped in the building were able to come out.” He said that we do not have concrete information as to what caused the fire, but the suspicion is that the accident occurred due to fire in the vehicle.
Recall that on June 3, at least 21 people, including foreign nationals, died in a fire in a restaurant in Malviya Nagar, Delhi.
