Hospice. Police investigation has taken a new turn in the suspicious death of a former student of Dharamshala Degree College in Kangra district. The accused student named in the case has claimed that it was not she who ragged the deceased, but a senior third year student. The college administration has clearly denied any complaint related to ragging. After contradictions emerged in the statements, the police changed the direction of the investigation. The police have decided to interrogate all the students of the first year class of the deceased student. For this, the entire records related to the college have been confiscated. The objective of the investigation is to find out what incident took place on the college premises or in the classroom due to which the student went into mental depression and later died. The accused student declared herself innocent and said that a third year senior student was involved in the ragging incident and the accused professor and other classmates were also aware of it. On the other hand, college principal Rakesh Pathania said that there is no such complaint registered with the anti-ragging and sexual harassment committee of the college and the record is completely clean.
The principal also clarified that the deceased was not a student of the college after July 29. Now the police is investigating what had happened to the student before July 29 and whether any incident happened during that time which affected her mental condition.
In this case, within 48 hours of the FIR being registered, the accused professor was granted interim bail. After this, the victim’s family feared that the investigation would be affected due to his media statements.
The police will now interrogate all the first year students separately, identify the third year senior mentioned by the accused and also investigate whether the student’s illness and depression were related to any ragging or mental torture. Apart from this, call detail record (CDR) and social media chats can also be examined.
