Srinagar . The Jammu and Kashmir government headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has allocated Rs 124.83 crore to promote health infrastructure. Jammu and Kashmir Health Minister Sakina Itu gave this information on Friday. Health Minister Sakina Itu wrote on the social media platform ‘X’, “As the Honorable Chief Minister assured in the budget speech, we have allocated Rs 124.83 crore for major upgradation in the health sector of Jammu and Kashmir. In these facilities, GMC in Jammu, GMC Kathua and GMC Rajouri, GMC MCC Lab, GMC Srinagar includes PET scan, strengthening telemedicine across Jammu and Kashmir (80 units). “
In her post, Sakina Itu also said that the government is committed to strong and accessible health services.
The central government has recently increased 50 seats of MBBS in Jammu and Kashmir to ensure that trained health services are available in remote areas of the Union Territory. In the last 10 years, the number of medical colleges in Jammu and Kashmir has increased from 4 to 11.
These 11 medical colleges include the prestigious Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences and AIIMS Jammu as well as many other government medical colleges like GMC Srinagar, GMC Jammu and other medical colleges in districts like Anantnag, Baramulla, Kathua, Rajouri, Doda, Handwara and Udhampur.
The number of MBBS seats in these medical colleges is now more than 1400. Nursing colleges of Jammu and Kashmir have 1300 seats in the government sector and 2000 seats in the private sector.
Health services have become widely available in far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir, where primary health centers are located along with trained medical officers. Each district has a sub-district hospital and a district hospital, where OPD and internal patient care facilities are available.
