Jabalpur/Ujjain, January 23 (). Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Friday reacted strongly to the clash between two communities in Tarana town of Ujjain district. He said that his government will take strict action against those trying to disturb law and order in the state.
While talking to media persons in Jabalpur, the Chief Minister reiterated that his government is known for good governance.
He said that our government continuously advocates good governance. Wherever there are flaws in the system, we take a strong stand. We are capable of dealing with anyone trying to disturb the peace of the state.
According to reports, some people allegedly beat up two people, one of whom is said to be an official of a Hindu organisation, over a minor dispute in Tarana town of Ujjain on Thursday night. After this there was a clash. Some unidentified people allegedly attacked a Vishwa Hindu Parishad member and his companion.
Tension escalated on Friday when people from both the communities allegedly threw stones at each other, prompting the police to take immediate action and deploy heavy security.
Videos of the clash that took place on Friday have gone viral on social media, showing stone pelting from both sides.
Ujjain district administration has issued prohibitory orders and a flag march was taken out in Tarana town.
Ujjain Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Sharma said that at least 20 people have been arrested and are being interrogated. He said that police vehicles are patrolling the roads and people are being appealed to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the Ujjain district administration has invoked Section 163 of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS).
Sharma further said that so far 20 people have been identified and arrested. Police teams are holding meetings with representatives of both the communities. At present the situation is under control. However, security has been beefed up in the area to avoid any further violence.
Police officials also said that some people are trying to spread panic by spreading rumours. Police teams are monitoring the situation and scanning CCTV footage to identify those involved in the clashes.
