Srinagar, January 30 (). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday said it has arrested a Patwari (revenue clerk) while taking bribe in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The central agency said in a statement that it has arrested the Patwari of the Revenue Department in Mauza Gadoora, Ganderbal, while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from the complainant.
CBI registered a case against the said accused on 28 January 2026. It is alleged that the accused public servant had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 for issuing jamabandi citation and making amendments in the land revenue records. The agency further said that by laying a trap, it caught the accused Patwari red handed while taking bribe from the complainant. The accused has been arrested. Further investigation is ongoing.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) said in the statement that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)’s strict action against corrupt public servants reflects its strong commitment to curb corruption. Citizens who witness cases of corruption or demands for bribes by public officials are encouraged to report such cases.
In Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, if any government employee asks for bribe for any official work, citizens can complain to CBI, ACB, Srinagar by contacting mobile number 9419900977.
The CBI, Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), and the police jointly have jurisdiction to prevent corruption among government employees of central services and union territory services in Jammu and Kashmir.
Accountability and transparency in public life had been marginalized for more than 25 years since terrorist violence began in Jammu and Kashmir in the 1990s.
After the rule of law was established with the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019, separatist violence declined and accountability in government services began to return.
