Pune, July 8 (). A massive relief and rescue operation is underway after an under-construction building collapsed in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area of Maharashtra’s Pune district on Wednesday. Indian Army team has also joined this rescue work.
According to the information, a joint task force from the Southern Command has been deployed at the spot. This team includes army engineering experts, medical officers and relief team members.
The Army’s Engineer Task Force and Relief Column along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), police, fire department and other agencies are engaged in relief and rescue operations.
This accident happened during the ongoing construction work in the Moshi Garbage Depot complex of Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. According to preliminary information, about 23 people were feared trapped under the debris of the building collapse. Of these, 12 people have been taken out safely. Out of these, 5 people came out on their own while 7 people were rescued. At the same time, one person has been seriously injured, who has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
After the incident, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the area. As soon as the information was received, local police, fire department, NDRF and other rescue agencies reached the spot. The rescue operation is expected to gain further momentum with the involvement of the special team of the Army.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar has contacted Additional Chief Secretary of Relief and Rehabilitation Department Vineeta Ved Singhal, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Vijaykumar Suryavanshi and Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey and has given instructions to carry out relief and rescue operations on war footing.
He directed the officials to safely rescue the people trapped in the debris and provide immediate medical care to the injured. On the instructions of the Deputy Chief Minister, the army was also included in the rescue operation.
It is noteworthy that Maharashtra has been receiving heavy rains continuously for the last several days. According to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), 62 people have died in various rain-related incidents in the state since June 1.
