Giridih. Giridih Police and CRPF’s Cobra-209 battalion have achieved great success under the anti-Naxal operation in Jharkhand. In a joint action, top commander of the Special Area Committee (SAC) of the banned organization CPI (Maoist) and Naxalite Ajay Mahato alias Mochu alias Tiger, carrying a bounty of Rs 25 lakh, has been arrested. According to the police, more than 240 cases like murder, IED blast, attacks on security forces and damage to government properties are registered against Ajay Mahato in various districts of the state. Giridih Superintendent of Police Dr. Vimal Kumar said that on July 17, information about Naxalite activities was received in the forests under Harladih OP of Khukhra police station area. Based on the information, Giridih Police and CRPF Cobra-209 battalion started a joint operation. On the basis of technical information and human information, the dense forests located in Khawastand Tola of village Pipradih were cordoned off, from where Ajay Mahato was arrested.
According to the police, Ajay Mahato was active in the Naxalite organization since 2005. In the organization, he used to perform responsibilities like levy collection, collecting weapons and explosives and planning major violent incidents. He has been active for a long time in Naxal affected areas like Parasnath, Saranda and Lugu Pahar.
SP Dr. Vimal Kumar said that Ajay Mahato is accused of being involved in many serious incidents like murder of people on charges of police informer, ambush attack on security forces, IED blast and damage to government properties. There are 68 cases registered against him in Giridih district alone. Apart from this, many cases are pending against him in other districts including West Singhbhum, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Hazaribagh, Chatra, Ramgarh and Seraikela.
Police say that the arrest of Ajay Mahato has dealt a major blow to the network of the Maoist organization. This action is being considered an important achievement in the direction of making Jharkhand Naxal free. Police and security forces are continuously conducting operations in Naxal affected areas, so that violent activities can be stopped.
Giridih Police has appealed to the people associated with Naxalite organization to leave the path of violence and return to the mainstream.
