More than 34 thousand people in the state made aware about traffic rules
Action taken against about one thousand drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol
Spectacles were distributed to the drivers after eye test – Transport Department issued more than 4500 challans
Jaipur. As per the wish of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, the state government is running a 15-day road safety campaign from November 4 to 18 across the state to prevent road accidents and strengthen the road safety system. During the campaign, effective work is being done continuously by various departments to strengthen the road infrastructure in the state, to make the drivers aware and to strictly enforce the traffic rules.
Police department’s action increased three times –
Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Dr. B. l. Meena said that on November 5, the second day of the road safety campaign, strict action was taken against those violating traffic rules, three times more than on the first day. He said that action was taken against 999 drivers for driving under the influence of alcohol, 4460 for driving at high speed, 2554 for driving in the wrong direction, 480 for driving dangerously, 514 for driving without reflector and 1725 for driving without number plate. During this period, 34 thousand 645 citizens were made aware about traffic rules and safe driving.
Dr. Meena said that publicity was done through police force to implement lane driving system as per NH-48 model on various highways of the state. Also, police teams were deployed to ensure lane driving and action was taken against those violating the rules.
Medical department conducted eye examination of truck and bus drivers and distributed spectacles.
Under the campaign, the Medical and Health Department, on November 6, examined the eyes of 461 commercial vehicle (truck and bus) drivers plying on national and state highways and distributed spectacles to 111 needy drivers.
The action of the Transport Department has increased –
Under the campaign, the Transport and Road Safety Department has so far issued challans to 4572 vehicles for violating rules in the state. On the third day (November 6), the department intensified the action and issued challans to 1814 vehicles. In this, challans were issued against 115 goods vehicles for overloading, 36 for finding passengers in these vehicles and 1214 for violating other rules. Challans were issued against 19 passenger vehicles for having more passengers than their carrying capacity, 6 buses for operating with luggage on the roof and 283 passenger vehicles for violating other rules. During the campaign, driving licenses of 34 persons were canceled by the Transport Department, permits of 9 vehicles were also canceled and 87 vehicles were seized. During this period, challans have been issued by the department in other cases also.
Coordinated action of concerned departments-
Under the Road Safety Campaign, effective work is being done by various departments of the state government and the district administration. The Public Works Department carried out works like removing bushes on the roadside, fixing speed breakers, installing warning signs and sign boards, closing unauthorized cuts etc. in various districts. Various actions were taken by the Urban Development and Local Bodies Department in various districts of the state including freeing the footpaths from encroachment, repairing road lights, sending destitute animals to safe places.
