Bharatpur. Taking inspiration from the successful home-stay tourism policy of the state of Uttarakhand, Sitaram Gupta, Director of Samridh Bharat Abhiyan, has written a letter to the Additional Chief Secretary of the State Tourism Department demanding implementation of rural home-stay scheme in Rajasthan so that along with tourism, destination wedding and medical tourism can be promoted in Rajasthan. So that the residents of the area can get new employment opportunities.
Under the home-stay policy implemented by the Uttarakhand government, initially six rooms were allowed, which has been increased to ten rooms after success. Also, the electricity rates were kept in the domestic category instead of commercial, which has led to a significant reduction in migration from the hilly areas and new employment opportunities have been created at the local level. Rajasthan has already implemented industrial electricity tariff instead of commercial electricity to encourage the hotel industry, thereby reviving the hospitality sector which was badly affected during the Corona period. According to the report published in Economic Times of India, due to Rajasthan Tourism Policy-2017, the state has the highest average number of rooms available in the country.
Rural tourism policy is in force in Rajasthan from the year 2020 and medical tourism and destination wedding are fast emerging sectors. Weddings of Agra and surrounding areas have started taking place even in small towns like Bharatpur, due to which the hotel industry is booming and there is a possibility of creating extensive employment opportunities in the future.
Gupta suggested that if the home-stay scheme in Rajasthan is started from Rajsamand district, it can get extremely positive results. Rajsamand has the ability to attract tourists for at least seven days due to its huge and beautiful lake, historical Dwarkadhish temple and many major tourist places including nearby Shrinathji temple of Nathdwara, Savaliya Seth, Maharana Pratap’s Chetak site. At present, due to lack of home-stay facilities, tourists have to return from there quickly.
In the letter written by Gupta, it was said that after solar energy, there is the greatest potential for tourism expansion in Rajasthan. In such a situation, the introduction of a new and progressive policy to promote home-stay, destination wedding and medical tourism can bring revolutionary changes in the tourism sector of the state.
