New Delhi, November 20 (IANS). Good sleep is like nectar for the body. If the body does not get complete rest and sleep, then the mind and physical activities start getting affected. There is a negative impact on human creativity, decision making ability and memory power. In such a situation, good sleep is as important as food.

In Ayurveda, sleep is included in Trayopastambha, which means the main three pillars that keep life stable. This includes diet, sleep and celibacy. If these three remain balanced, then life goes on in balance and free from diseases. To get good sleep, some special rules have to be followed at night, which are beneficial for both body and mind. First let us know what could be the reasons for not getting deep and good sleep.

It is believed in Ayurveda that when there is an imbalance of Vata dosha in the body, there is difficulty in sleeping. Due to this, there is unwanted stress on the brain which disrupts sleep. Apart from this, many times it happens that the brain suddenly becomes active at night and one cannot sleep for a long time. This happens due to hormonal imbalance in the body. Apart from this, due to stress and eating food untimely, there is also problem in sleep.

It is more important to take care of sleep in winter season, because in this season Vata and Kapha dosha increases in the body. In such a situation, eat early and light food at night. Have khichdi and soup for dinner. Mix ashwagandha or nutmeg, jatamansi, shankhapushni and brahmi in milk at night. These reduce brain stress and help in inducing sleep. Consume fruits at night and avoid excessive fried and roasted food.

Preparing the body for sleep is also an important step. Release mental stress before going to bed. Wash hands and face with warm water, massage the soles with lukewarm oil and if you wish, you can also massage the neck and shoulders. This will relax the nerves of the brain.

Apart from this, avoid using the phone at night. You can also use sandalwood or lavender scented candle in your room before sleeping. These scented candles give peace to the mind.
