New Delhi, December 16 (). The Election Commission has started the counting phase of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Goa, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Lakshadweep. Officials said on Tuesday that this is an important step towards ensuring accuracy, inclusivity and transparency ahead of the upcoming elections.
In this campaign, extensive door-to-door verification is being done with the aim of updating voters’ details, identifying eligible new voters and removing ineligible entries from the list.
During the census, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are visiting homes to verify details of existing voters and collecting information from citizens who are eligible but not yet registered.
Special attention is being given to first-time voters, women, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and migrant populations to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the democratic process.
Officials said the process will also help in removing errors related to name, address, age and photographs, as well as remove duplicate or shifted entries.
Voters have been urged to cooperate with the Polling Officers (BLOs) and provide accurate information along with supporting documents where necessary.
Citizens can also submit the form online or through designated convenience centers to expedite the process.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Goa said that the SIR is being conducted as per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, with strict adherence to time-limits and procedural safeguards.
Supervisory mechanisms have been set up at the district and constituency level to monitor progress and speedy resolution of complaints.
Political parties have been advised to appoint agents at the booth level to assist voters and highlight any discrepancy during counting.
