Storm, rain and hailstorm are continuing in many parts of the country for the last three days. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), Strong Western Disturbance has been active since March 18, due to which the weather remains unstable in the entire country. Meanwhile, today the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert of thunderstorm and rain in all the states except Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
In specific areas, there is an orange alert of rain in Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. There is also a possibility of hailstorm in Himachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. This situation is a cause of special concern for farmers and rural areas, as sudden rains and hailstorms can cause huge damage to crops.
Snowfall continued in the high altitude areas of Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal on Tuesday also. In Himachal’s Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, roads have been closed due to snowfall and traffic has been affected. At the same time, normal life was affected due to continuous snowfall in Sarthal of Jammu. People in mountainous areas have been advised to be alert and take necessary precautions.
The effect of bad weather was also visible in Meghalaya. Here in Ribhoi, due to strong storm and heavy rain, about 1028 houses were damaged and about 5000 people were affected. The maximum damage was seen in the villages of Umling and Jirang blocks. Crops, vegetation and local infrastructure have also been seriously damaged in these areas. The administration has started relief and rescue operations.
The Meteorological Department has warned that due to the active western disturbance, incidents of rain, thunderstorm and hailstorm may continue across the country for the next few days. He has appealed to people to be cautious while going out, ensure safety of homes and vehicles and pay attention to weather updates.
According to experts, this period of rain and hailstorm is extremely unusual and sudden, putting farmers’ crops, animals and local infrastructure at risk. He has appealed to the people to stay in safe places and seek help from the administration if necessary.
In view of this situation, the administration of many states has intensified emergency preparations. Relief camps are being set up in the affected areas and work is underway to clear debris, restore power and ensure water supply. According to IMD, weather instability across the country may continue for the next several days.
