Against the backdrop of global challenges, government, civil society and international partners came together in Qatar’s capital Doha to discuss solutions to advance social development and address the current crises. During the discussions held on Monday, the focus was on hunger, poverty, increasing inequality and instability caused by the climate crisis. The second world summit on the issue of social development is being held in Doha on 4-6 November. In this connection, a meeting of the leaders of the Global Coalition against Poverty and Hunger was held. More than 67 crore people around the world are facing hunger, while 2.3 billion people are suffering from deep food insecurity. The Mahasabha chief said that the current hunger crisis is not due to lack of food, but it is due to inequality, violent conflict and policy decisions. Tweet URL

In her opening address to the Solutions Forum, UN General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock said this is a step forward from just looking at the problem to finding proven solutions to it. “Too often we face a situation where we have no clear solutions, no answers to the suffering we see, and that is heartbreaking.” “Today, it is different. “We have come together to avoid falling into this trap again, so that we can learn from each other, benefit from good ideas, join hands and fulfill our shared principles.” Successful examples Qatar and France, with the support of the UN Office for Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), organized this forum, which was attended by government officials, private sector representatives and many other stakeholders. The discussion highlighted policies and projects that will reduce poverty. General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock shared several examples from around the world, such as a program in Sierra Leone that is providing training, employment and small-scale credit to people with disabilities. In Sri Lanka, a civil society innovation hub is providing job training to youth and reinvesting revenues into skills development. In India, a national digital identity system has It has helped in opening more than 30 crore bank accounts and has also expanded the accessibility of social services. On effective solutions, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed said in a video message that now there is a need to go beyond resolutions and implement such solutions. She referred to the Doha Political Declaration, which will be passed during the World Summit. In this manifesto, an appeal has been made for such social contracts which are effective for the people. And be fair, inclusive and relevant to contemporary realities. “To make this happen, we need to expand the scope of solutions that work,” and learn from examples of success. “Cherish these stories. Let them fuel your determination. Take them back to your communities, and translate them into bold action. For current and future generations.”
