Chennai . Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay will formally launch the Singappan Special Task Force on Tuesday. The force is a dedicated police unit set up to strengthen the security of women and children across the state. The inauguration ceremony will take place at 5 pm at the Jawaharlal Nehru Rajarathinam Sports Stadium, Chennai. One of the major announcements made by Vijay after taking over as the Chief Minister was the formation of a special force. Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to enhance the safety of women and children through focused policing, prompt intervention and better coordination among law enforcement agencies. Senior IPS officer K. Bhavanishwari has been appointed the first Inspector General (IG) of the Singappan Special Task Force.
The newly formed unit comprises more than 30 policemen, including a superintendent of police, two deputy superintendents of police, four inspectors and several other officers and staff.
To give a unique identity to the force, the government has introduced a special uniform. Women policemen and women sub-inspectors attached to the task force will wear khaki trousers with blue shirt. He has also been given a black cap and black shoes. It is expected that this unique uniform will make the force easily recognizable while discharging its duties across the state.
The launch of the Singappan Special Task Force was originally scheduled for May 29 and was to be inaugurated by the Chief Minister on the same day. However, the program was postponed at the last moment due to administrative reasons.
Now the formal inauguration is scheduled for Tuesday, it is expected that this special force will start operations soon after.
After the launch ceremony in Chennai, Singappan personnel will be deployed across Tamil Nadu and will start functioning in all the districts.
Officials said that this task force has been formed for more powerful and coordinated action to deal with crimes against women and children. Apart from redressal of complaints and ensuring prompt intervention in emergencies, the force is expected to focus on preventive policing, surveillance, victim assistance and awareness initiatives.
The launch of the Singappan Special Task Force is considered one of the major law and order initiatives of the Vijay government. By forming a dedicated unit focused exclusively on the safety and welfare of women and children, the government hopes that this will increase public confidence in policing and create a safer environment across Tamil Nadu.
