New Delhi, 4 November (). Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla addressed the 125th anniversary celebrations of the India Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata on Monday. The theme of the ceremony was “India 100: A New Dawn Era.”
Om Birla said that attracted by India’s strong and vibrant democratic system, the world is becoming increasingly willing to invest in India. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is moving rapidly towards becoming a global economic superpower.
Birla stressed the government’s commitment to promoting a business-friendly environment by promoting minimum government, maximum governance, reducing bureaucratic hurdles and enabling industrial expansion.
While encouraging the private sector to increase investment in research and development and adapt to global standards, he welcomed the Prime Minister’s assurance that the Government will take forward such efforts and further strengthen India’s progress towards global leadership in innovation.

Describing Bharat Chamber of Commerce as a source of inspiration for business chambers across the country, Birla praised its unwavering commitment to public interest and its pioneering efforts in promoting corporate social responsibility.
He said India’s remarkable transformation in the social and economic spheres, even in an increasingly complex global environment, is a testament to the foresight, resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of its business community.
He recalled its beginning as Marwari Chamber of Commerce while appreciating the institution’s historical contribution to the economic, industrial and social development of the country. Birla lauded the institution’s glorious 125-year journey, saying it has been marked by resilience, foresight and dedicated service to the nation.
On the democratic strength of the country, Birla said that visionary leadership, coupled with stability and inclusivity makes India an ideal democracy for the world. He said that democracy in India is not just a system of governance but a way of life that is deeply embedded in the social and cultural ethos of the country. Where democracy flourishes, strong and stable governance also flourishes.
On the role of women and youth in inclusive development, the Lok Sabha Speaker said that their increasing participation in various fields reflects a profound social change. He said that there has been a significant increase in the participation of women in diverse fields and they will continue to play an important role in building a developed and self-reliant India.
Recognizing West Bengal’s historical and continuing contribution to the country’s progress, Birla said the state has long been a center of intellectual, cultural and industrial excellence. Bengal has produced eminent thinkers, poets, reformers and industrial pioneers and has been at the center of the independence movement.
