Since the rain on Sunday (March 15), Delhi’s air quality has seen a steady improvement. On Monday (March 16), the ‘Air Quality Index’ (AQI) was recorded at 119, which falls in the ‘Moderate’ category; The special thing is that in the morning it had fallen to 97. Pollution levels were gradually decreasing over the last one week, indicating air quality moving from ‘poor’ category to ‘better’ category.

According to the ‘Commission for Air Quality Management’ (CAQM), AQI was recorded at 119 at 4:00 pm on March 16. Officials say favorable weather conditions—such as light rain and strong winds—have played a key role in reducing pollution. Further, after reviewing the forecasts given by IMD and IITM, the prevailing conditions were considered satisfactory.
In view of the improvement in air quality, the restrictions imposed under the first phase of ‘Graded Response Action Plan’ (GRAP) in the Delhi-NCR region have been lifted with immediate effect. However, officials have made it clear that this relief may be temporary; Therefore, state governments and concerned agencies have been directed to strictly follow all guidelines to prevent further increase in pollution levels.
