United Nations, 31 October (). Due to the ongoing civil war in Sudan, the lives of the people living there have been completely destroyed. People are becoming victims of hunger and violence. Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) expressed serious concern over the increasing violence in and around Al Fashar in Sudan’s North Darfur state.

On Thursday, UNAC members condemned the attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Al Fashar and its devastating impact on the civilian population, Xinhua news agency reported.

In a statement, UNSC members condemned RSF atrocities against civilians. The UN expressed grave concern at the increased risk of mass atrocities, including ethnically motivated atrocities, in these areas of Sudan.

Council members demanded that all parties to the conflict protect civilians and comply with their obligations under international law, including international humanitarian law, and facilitate safe and unimpeded humanitarian access.

Council members reiterated that the priority is for all parties to resume negotiations to reach a permanent ceasefire and a comprehensive, inclusive and Sudanese-owned political process.

Along with this, the UNSC urged all UN member states to refrain from external interference that promotes conflict and instability, support efforts for sustainable peace, comply with their obligations under international law and implement relevant Security Council resolutions.

Council members unequivocally reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Sudan. In this regard the Security Council reaffirmed its commitment to reject the establishment of a parallel governance authority in areas controlled by the RSF.
