A very important meeting is going to be held in Oman today. A joint session of the Council of Oman has been called on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. In this meeting, members of the State Council and Majlis A’Shura will come together and discuss many important laws. This meeting has been organized mainly to finalize the new rules related to Real Estate and IT Crime. Its objective is to further strengthen the legal framework of the country and resolve old pending issues.
Why has the joint session been called?
This meeting is being organized under Article 49 of the Council of Oman Law. As a rule, when the State Council and Majlis A’Shura cannot agree on the provisions of a law, a joint meeting is called. In this, members of both the houses together discuss those issues and take decisions through voting. After today’s meeting, these laws will be sent for the next stage i.e. Royal Decree approval.
Which 7 laws will be discussed?
A total of 7 major draft laws will be considered in today’s session. These are going to have a direct impact on common people, businessmen and internet users. These laws are as follows:
Real Estate Register Law: Its purpose is to modernize the work of property registration and documents.
Anti-Cyber-Crime Law: This law is being brought to increase internet and digital security.
Civil Society Organizations Law: This rule will decide the way NGOs and social institutions work.
Arbitration Law: Changes are being made in old rules to resolve business disputes.
Fisheries Law: Amendments to organize marine resources and fisheries.
National Spatial Data Law: A new framework for geographic information and data management.
Sports Associations Law: Focus on financial independence and governance of sports organizations.
