Kolkata. The convoy of Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari was attacked at Chandrakona in West Medinipur district on Saturday evening. The attack took place when he was returning to Kolkata after attending a political event in Purulia district. The officer claimed that after crossing the four-point crossing at Chandrakona Road Market area in Paschim Medinipur district, some workers of the ruling Trinamool Congress suddenly blocked the road. He said that they were carrying Trinamool Congress flags. The officer also claimed that some ruling party workers attacked his convoy with bamboo sticks and started hitting the bulletproof vehicle with sticks. He alleged that this continued for a long time, but the local police did not reach the spot to stop the alleged attackers.
The officer’s convoy somehow managed to leave the spot, after which they went straight to Chandrakona police post and sat on the ground there.
The opposition leader said, “I will not leave this place until the local police identify and arrest the miscreants. The District Superintendent of Police and other senior officials should be informed. I will wait here till the end.”
When this report was written, the officer was sitting at Chandrakona police post. This is not the first time that the convoy of the opposition leader has been allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress workers.
In August 2025, the officer’s convoy was attacked in Cooch Behar city in North Bengal. Then, a group of people, allegedly associated with the Trinamool Congress, came from the side and tried to stop the vehicles of the officer’s convoy.
The officers were not injured due to the bulletproof glass of the vehicle in which they were travelling. The BJP later said the attackers were Trinamool Congress workers.
