Jalpaiguri (West Bengal), June 21 (). A tragic road accident took place in Maynaguri area of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, in which a North Bengal State Transport Corporation bus collided with a stationary truck. Four people died in this horrific road accident, while 57 passengers were injured. Of these, the condition of 10 is said to be critical. Expressing grief over this incident, CM Suvendu Adhikari has announced to speed up relief rescue and compensation.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari expressed deep grief over the incident. He posted on the social media platform ‘X’ and expressed sympathy with the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The Chief Minister said that relief and rescue operations have been intensified by the state government and the district administration and police are continuously present at the spot. He has instructed senior ministers to monitor the relief operations and provide better treatment to the injured immediately.
The government announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in the accident, Rs 1 lakh to the seriously injured and Rs 50,000 to those with minor injuries. Apart from this, the entire treatment cost of the injured will be borne by the state government in government hospitals.
The administration said that a detailed investigation is being conducted so that the real causes of the accident can be ascertained.
According to the information, the bus was running on Maynaguri-Domohani route and the accident occurred near Uladabadi area. The collision was so strong that many passengers were seriously injured. All the injured were immediately admitted to Jalpaiguri Medical College and Hospital, where their treatment is going on.
Local administration and police reached the spot and started relief and rescue operations. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the bus hit a truck parked on the roadside, however, the exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
