Banks will remain closed tomorrow and Wednesday. Today, Tuesday, May 26, banks will remain closed in many states on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Bank branches will not open tomorrow – Wednesday, 27th May. Are you planning to visit any bank branch tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27 to complete your banking work? If yes, please note that RBI has declared a holiday for tomorrow, Wednesday. Banks will remain closed tomorrow in most of the states of the country. Read on to know why RBI has declared a holiday tomorrow and in which states bank branches will not function.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27

Banks will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, 2026. However, banks will not remain closed across the country tomorrow. Banks will remain closed in Imphal, UP, Kerala, Kolkata, Kohima, Assam, Chandigarh, Jammu, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Srinagar, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Manipur. Except these areas, banks will remain open in all other states. In these specific areas, banks will remain closed due to Eid-ul-Adha. This festival is also known as Bakri Eid or Eid-ul-Zuha. It is a major festival celebrated by the Muslim community. On this day, people offer namaz and remember the spirit of sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim.

How many days will banks remain closed for Bakri Eid?

This year, there was a lot of confusion over the exact date of Bakri Eid – specifically, whether banks would remain closed on May 27 or May 28. As a result, banks are observing holidays on different dates in different states. In some states, banks will remain closed tomorrow, Wednesday, May 27, while in other states they will remain closed on Thursday, May 28. Today, 26th May, banks are closed in the state of Tripura. Public and private sector banks have been given a holiday on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam. Kazi Nazrul Islam is commonly known as the “Rebel Poet”, as his poems and writings serve as a powerful voice against injustice, discrimination and slavery.

When will banks remain closed in May?
If you have planned to do any important work related to banking in the last week of May, then do not forget to check the list of holidays in advance. According to the Reserve Bank of India’s holiday calendar, banks will remain closed in many states on the occasion of Bakri Eid (or Eid-ul-Azha) on May 27. Apart from this, due to May 31 being a Sunday, banking operations will remain closed across the country. However, the schedule of Bakri Eid holidays will not be the same in all states. For example, banks in Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed for two consecutive days – May 27 and 28. In most other states, banks will remain closed for only one day due to Bakri Eid.

Although bank branches will remain closed, digital banking services will remain operational. Customers will be able to easily transfer money, pay bills and complete other important banking needs through UPI, mobile banking and internet banking. Online services like NEFT and RTGS will also remain operational.
