The Shehbaz Sharif government in Pakistan has once again given relief to the citizens by announcing a reduction in petrol prices by Rs 4 per liter. According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Department of Pakistan’s Energy Ministry, the new rates came into effect across the country from June 6, 2026.

**New prices of petrol in Pakistan**

After the cut of Rs 4 per litre, petrol price in Pakistan has now dropped from Rs 381.78 per liter to Rs 377.78 per litre. At present, there is no change in the price of high-speed diesel; It is stable at Rs 380.78 per litre.

**How much has the price decreased so far?**

In the last four weeks, petrol prices in Pakistan have overall decreased by about Rs 37 per litre. Earlier – especially in the last week of May – the Government of Pakistan had simultaneously reduced the prices of both petrol and diesel by a huge amount of Rs 22 per liter.

**Why no relief on diesel?**

Diesel prices were continuously increasing in the global market, due to which there was a possibility of an increase of Rs 34 to 35 in the price in Pakistan. However, the government refused to put additional burden on the public and managed to keep the price stable by changing the levy.

**What is the situation in India?**

While the Pakistan government has cut fuel prices four times and the prices in India have been increased four times, the situation in India is under control. Petrol prices in India have ranged between Rs 102 and Rs 115 per liter – much lower than the new rates in Pakistan even after the recent cuts.

In recent months, petrol prices in Pakistan had crossed the level of Rs 380-400 per litre. As a result, as soon as international oil prices gained some relief, the government started implementing huge price cuts ranging from Rs 4 to Rs 22 every week. In contrast, fuel prices in India have remained in a stable range for a long time.
