Peter Elbers, CEO of the country’s largest airline IndiGo, has resigned. MD Rahul Bhatia will hold the post in the interim until the new CEO is appointed. The company said that his resignation will be effective from March 10, 2026. The company’s board thanked him for his contribution and wished him all the best for the future. Indigo said that a new CEO is expected to be appointed soon. Board Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta said that Rahul Bhatia will further strengthen the work culture of the company and will continue to provide better customer service.

Rahul Bhatia is one of the promoters of the company. IndiGo’s parent company is InterGlobe Aviation, which holds the largest stake of 35.7 percent. InterGlobe Enterprises is the owner of this company. The company has said that a new CEO will be appointed soon.

Peter Albers has over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry. He joined IndiGo in 2022. Albers emphasized the company’s international expansion. Under his leadership, IndiGo created history by placing the world’s largest order of 500 Airbus A320 aircraft in June 2023. Before IndiGo, he was with Dutch airline company KLM. There he rose from a small position to President and then CEO. He is considered a troubleshooter and strategist in the aviation industry, but this time, IndiGo faced a major crisis under his leadership.

indigo crisis
In December last year, Indigo canceled thousands of flights. More than 5,000 flights were canceled in 10 days starting on December 2. This happened in November due to government rules related to pilot duty. The airline had plenty of time to increase its number of pilots, but the company failed to do so, and the impact was felt in December. This caused a lot of damage to Indigo’s image.
