If you want to start dairy business with low investment, then this news is for you. The Uttar Pradesh government is running a scheme under which financial assistance of up to ₹ 80,000 is given for purchasing just two cows of superior indigenous breed. The special thing is that women are being given priority in this scheme.
Chief Veterinary Officer of Rampur, Dr. Ashwani Kumar said that the Uttar Pradesh government is implementing ‘Mukhyamantri Swadeshi Cow-Samvardhan Yojana’ under ‘Nand Baba Milk Mission’. The objective of this scheme is to increase milk production in the state, promote indigenous cow breeds and increase the income of cattle farmers. This scheme can prove to be very helpful for any cattle farmer wishing to start a dairy business.
**Subsidy amount**
Under this scheme, the government gives a maximum subsidy of ₹80,000 for a unit of two cows of superior indigenous breeds like Gir, Sahiwal and Tharparkar. The estimated cost of a unit of two cows has been fixed at ₹2 lakh; 40% of the total cost is given as subsidy – subject to a maximum of ₹80,000. The main feature of this scheme is that 50% of the places for beneficiaries are reserved for women; This means that if women want to start dairy business, they will be given the benefits of the scheme on priority basis. The aim of the government is to make women self-reliant and create new employment opportunities in rural areas.
**animal husbandry system**
To avail the benefits of the scheme, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age. They should have adequate space to keep cows and necessary infrastructure for animal husbandry. Cows purchased under the scheme should be in their first or second lactation (i.e. still giving milk). Subsidy is available only on approved indigenous breeds. Applications for this scheme are made online through the official ‘Nand Baba Milk Mission’ portal. Applicants have to upload documents like Aadhar card, bank account details, residence certificate, photo and other required documents. After the application, the concerned department checks the eligibility. Once all the conditions are met, the grant process proceeds.
