According to the calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banking operations will be affected for two consecutive days this week. While branches will remain closed in Mizoram due to a special festival, the second Saturday of the month is bringing the banking system of the entire country to a halt. March 13 (Friday): Holiday in only one state
On March 13, all banks across the country will remain open, but banking operations will remain closed only in Mizoram. Because Chapchar Kut, a big festival of Mizoram is celebrated on 13 March. The festival is linked to the farming traditions of the area, celebrated after the completion of the most difficult phase of shifting cultivation (forest clearing).
March 14 (Saturday): Bank holidays across the country
March 14 is the second Saturday of the month. According to RBI rules, banks remain closed across the country on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. Therefore, all banks across India will remain closed on 14th March as it is the second Saturday.
What will happen to banking?
Banks may be physically closed, but in the digital age you don’t have to worry:
Online Banking: Net banking and mobile banking services will remain operational 24×7. You can transfer funds (NEFT/IMPS/RTGS) from the comfort of your home.
UPI: UPI and ATM services will remain operational as usual, so that you have no shortage of cash.
Check Deposit: If you want to deposit a cheque, you can drop it in the drop box outside the bank. However, processing will be possible only on March 16 (Monday).
