There is a big news for domestic LPG cylinder users. The central government has started sending SMS alerts to LPG customers about their eligibility for subsidy. Eligibility for gas subsidy is now increasingly verified through tax records. The government has taken this step amid the ‘Strait of Hormuz’ crisis arising out of the ongoing dispute with Iran. From now on, subsidy on cylinders will be given only to low income people. The main objective of these messages being sent by the Central Government is to ensure that fraudulent people are not able to avail the subsidy at all, and also to ensure that the subsidized cylinders reach only those who really need them.
Reply required within 7 days
According to reports, the messages being sent to LPG customers state that those whose annual taxable income is more than ₹10 lakh will have to provide their complete information or submit an appropriate response within 7 days. Strict action will be taken against those who do not follow this. Apart from this, it has also been clearly stated in the messages sent by the Central Government that if no satisfactory response is received within 7 days, their LPG subsidy will be stopped forever. Also, the government has issued strict warnings several times in the past, reiterating that people whose annual income is more than ₹10 lakh are not entitled to LPG subsidy. The information provided in the messages being sent is being subjected to strict technical scrutiny to ensure that the benefits of gas subsidy reach only those who truly need it.
People should pay special attention to these rules
However, according to various media reports, during this entire process, tax records related to PAN card, family information related to Aadhaar and LPG customer database can be combined and verified quickly. Moreover, this check applies not only to the gas connection holders but also to their entire family.
