This year, on February 1, 2026, there will be trading on NSE and BSE despite it being a Sunday, as the Union Budget will be presented on this day. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget for the financial year 2026-27 on that day.

trading on sunday

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) told investors in a circular that a live trading session will be conducted as per the normal schedule in view of the Budget. Pre-Open Market: 9:00 am to 9:08 am. Normal Trading: 9:15 am to 3:30 pm. Similarly, BSE has also declared February 1 as ‘Special Trading Day’ and said the markets will remain open for regular trading hours. The market being open on Budget day will give investors a chance to react quickly to policy announcements.

End on budget speculations

The Central Government has made it clear that the Union Budget 2026 will be presented on February 1 as per the schedule. Despite it being Sunday, there has been no change in the budget date. This has put an end to all the ongoing speculations regarding the date. All the important dates related to the budget session were approved in the recent meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA). As per the government’s proposed programme:

January 28: President’s address to the joint session of Parliament

January 29: Economic Survey to be presented in Parliament

February 1 (Sunday): Finance Minister will present the Union Budget 2026

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman can present her ninth budget on this occasion. So far, he has presented two interim and six full budgets. With this budget, she will break Pranab Mukherjee’s record and equal P. Chidambaram’s record of presenting the budget nine times. It is also worth noting that for the first time in many years, the budget will be presented on a Sunday, making this budget historic from both a political and economic point of view.
