The stock market will celebrate Diwali on the afternoon of 21st October. For Diwali 2025, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) have announced the market holidays and muhurat trading schedule. Muhurat trading takes place every year on Diwali for the stock market. This time, Muhurta trading will not be in the evening as usual, but from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm.
Confused about Muhurta trading?
According to the information given by BSE, the market will remain closed on Wednesday, October 22 on the occasion of Balipratipada. Normal trading will resume on October 23. On October 20, when Diwali will be celebrated across the country, there will be trading throughout the day. According to a notification issued on the stock exchange website, the market will remain closed on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, on the occasion of Lakshmi Puja (Diwali). On this day, Muhurat trading will take place only from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm. Trading will also remain suspended the next day, October 22 (Wednesday), on the occasion of Balipratipada. This means that investors will get two consecutive days off.
Avoid emotional buying during Muhurat trading
According to Indian tradition, Muhurat Trading marks the beginning of the new financial year (Samvat 2082). During this time investors start their new investments and it is seen as an auspicious sign. Like every year, transactions will be allowed in equity, futures, options, currency and commodity derivatives segments. Both NSE and BSE have also clarified that trades executed during the muhurat trading session will be settled as normal. Although this session is usually symbolic, many investors see it as a signal to start new investments and hope for auspicious gains in their long-term portfolio.
