Indian space tech startup Skyroot Aerospace has achieved major financial success and has raised new funding of $ 60 million (about Rs 500 crore). After this investment, the valuation of the company has increased to approximately $ 1.1 billion (about Rs 10 thousand crores), making it the new unicorn of India’s space sector. With this achievement, Skyroot has become the first private space startup in the country to make a place in the Unicorn Club. This investment comes at a time when the company is preparing for the launch of its first private orbital rocket “Vikram-1”.
According to the information received from the company, recently many important parts of the rocket have been sent from the manufacturing facility located in Hyderabad to Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. This is the same place where most of India’s space launches are conducted. Now the company is engaged in final preparations towards the first orbital flight of “Vikram-1” in the next few weeks. “Vikram-1” is Skyroot’s first private orbital launch vehicle, which aims to place small and medium satellites in the Earth’s orbit. The company claims that its launch services will be one of the most affordable options in the world, making space access even easier for small satellite operators globally.
Space sector experts believe that the private space industry in India is expanding rapidly, and companies like Skyroot are bringing new competition and innovation to the sector. Relaxation in the space policies of the government and increasing participation of the private sector is giving further impetus to this industry. Skyroot has already successfully conducted many tests, including sub-orbital rocket tests. Now through “Vikram-1” the company is taking steps towards achieving full orbital launch capability.
After receiving the funding, the company’s focus is now on increasing production capacity, improving technology and making the launch mission successful. Industry analysts say that if this mission is successful, India can gain a stronger position in the global commercial space launch market. Overall, this achievement of Skyroot is considered an important milestone for India’s space tech ecosystem, further placing the country on the global map of private space companies.
