There will be no movement in the Indian stock market today, as both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will remain closed on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. It’s a day of rest for investors and traders, but it’s also the beginning of a long series of holidays to come. Within the next seven trading sessions, there will be three market holidays, effectively reducing the number of trading days. Earlier this month, on March 3, the market was closed due to Holi; Now Ram Navami is the second big holiday of this month.

a long string of upcoming holidays
A look at the stock market calendar shows that the coming week is also expected to be relatively quiet. After today’s holiday, two more big holidays are coming within a few days. The market will remain closed on March 31 on the occasion of Shri Mahavir Jayanti, which will be immediately followed by Good Friday holiday on April 3. Due to these holidays, investors should plan their strategies very carefully, as volumes in the market are likely to be low, and liquidity may also be impacted. Given this series of holidays, trading opportunities will be limited; Therefore, it is very important to manage your positions carefully.

Market holidays in 2026
Looking at the entire 2026, a total of 16 trading holidays have been scheduled for the stock market. This count does not include regular weekend holidays falling on Saturday and Sunday. In the coming months, the market will be closed on several important occasions. In April, the 14th is scheduled to be a holiday on the occasion of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti. Subsequently, in May, trading will be closed on the occasion of Maharashtra Day on 1st and Bakri Eid on 28th. In June, a holiday is scheduled on 26th due to Muharram. The second half of the year also has a long list of holidays, including Ganesh Chaturthi on September 14 and Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti on October 2.

Market outlook during festive season
The market is also expected to have a lot of holidays in the months of October and November. There will be a Dussehra holiday on 20th October, after which the market will remain closed on the occasion of Diwali (Bali Pratipada) on 10th November. After this, trading will also remain closed on the occasion of Prakash Guruparv on 24th November, which is the birth anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The last major holiday of the year will be Christmas on December 25. Keeping all these dates in mind, big investors make their future strategies to deal with the market volatility and take entry or exit decisions at the right time.

Grand event of ‘Muhurat Trading’ on Diwali

Although there are many holidays throughout the year, there is one special day when the market opens even though it is a Sunday. November 8, 2026 is Sunday; However, to celebrate the auspicious occasion of Diwali (Lakshmi Puja), a special ‘Muhurat Trading’ session will be organized in the stock market. This session does not last the whole day, but is open only for a specific, limited time. Trading on this day is considered very auspicious, and many people choose this day to start new investments. BSE and NSE will issue separate notifications regarding the schedule of this special session sometime before Diwali. Currently, the market is closed today due to Ram Navami, and normal trading is scheduled to resume tomorrow, Friday.
